Energy storage solutions for schools: practical example International School Augsburg ISA

“With the help of STABL Energy’s innovative energy storage solutions, the International School Augsburg is making great progress towards our goal of climate neutrality. STABL’s sustainable energy solutions fit perfectly with our commitment to environmental protection and significantly reduce our ecological footprint. The integration of the battery storage system has allowed us to effectively optimize our solar energy usage. We are particularly impressed with STABL’s modular inverter technology, which ensures both the reliability and longevity of the system and is unique in the industry. In addition, STABL’s approach to reusing electric car batteries not only reduces our environmental impact, but also supports the principles of the circular economy. Our partnership with STABL underscores our shared commitment to environmentally conscious initiatives and sustainable practices.”

Energy storage solutions for schools

In collaboration with STABL Energy, the International School Augsburg (ISA) in Gersthofen is implementing an ambitious project to promote sustainability. STABL Energy has supplied the school with an energy storage system with a capacity of 147 kWh and an output of 67.5 kW. The storage system has been integrated into a subscription model and operates alongside the school’s existing photovoltaic system. The aim is to maximise the self-consumption of solar energy and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.

The challenge

The International School Augsburg faces the challenge of reducing its CO2 emissions and maximizing the use of renewable energy. Although the school already has a photovoltaic system, there was a need to store and use the energy generated more efficiently in order to increase self-consumption and thus operate more sustainably. Other challenges included ensuring system reliability and extending the lifespan of the energy storage systems.

The solution: introduction of the STABL energy storage system

STABL Energy provided ISA with one of its innovative energy storage solutions, which was purchased as part of a subscription model. STABL’s modular and secure technology enables comprehensive monitoring of the energy storage system down to cell level and the predictive detection of necessary maintenance. A unique feature is the ability to replace individual battery modules of the storage system even years later, which significantly extends the service life of the entire system and enables flexible warranty conditions.

Advantages of modular inverter technology

A highlight of the solution is the modular inverter technology, which ensures both system reliability and longevity. STABL technology enables ISA to use the solar energy generated much more effectively and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

Focus on sustainability: ISA and STABL Energy go hand in hand

ISA has firmly anchored sustainability in its curriculum and continuously implements measures to promote a sustainable lifestyle. The school was once again recognized as an “Environmental School in Europe – International Sustainability School” in the 2022/2023 school year and has been certified as CO2-neutral since 2022. Marcus Wagner, Director Business & Finance at ISA, emphasizes the importance of the partnership with STABL Energy and the positive impact on the environment and the school’s commitment to the principles of a circular economy.

Conclusion: A model for educational institutions

The introduction of the STABL energy storage subscription at ISA not only demonstrates the school’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, but also serves as an inspiration for other educational institutions to take similar initiatives. By successfully integrating sustainable energy solutions, ISA is setting new standards in the education sector and making a significant contribution to reducing its carbon footprint.
