Funding is mainly available for projects that contribute to decarbonization and self-consumption optimization. Depending on the program, accompanying measures such as planning or grid connection are also eligible for funding: stationary electricity storage systems such as lithium-ion systems, storage in combination with photovoltaics, control and measurement technology for intelligent control and sector coupling with heat or electromobility as well as storage use in agriculture, e.g. for cooling or ventilation.

The funding rates depend on the respective program, the project size and the applicant group. In agricultural programs, additional bonuses for increasing self-consumption or CO₂ savings are possible: investment grants of up to 60% in certain state programs or programs of the Federal Office for Agriculture & Food (BLE), loans from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) with reduced interest rates for storage and PV or funding for planning and consulting services, e.g. via the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

Applying for funding requires different documents and evidence depending on the program. Important: Funding applications must always be submitted before the contract is signed or the project starts. Retroactive applications are generally excluded. Start by defining the project and the technical design, select the appropriate funding program and submit the application before the measure begins. This will be checked by the responsible funding agency. You will receive proof of implementation and provision of evidence, e.g. via a specialist contractor declaration.

Depending on the program type, subsidies for electricity storage systems come from various sources. These can be grants from federal, state and/or European Union (EU) funds.
