The family-run poultry processor from Thuringia, Mantos International Food, is consistently focusing on a sustainable energy supply at its headquarters in Eisenach. STABL Energy's regional installation partner MAXX SOLAR & ENERGY has installed a high-performance photovoltaic system in combination with a STABL battery storage system. Both contribute to reducing peak loads and optimizing self-consumption.
Mantos International Food develops, produces and markets around 95% of its poultry convenience products under private labels for retail, wholesale and food service. The highly efficient, continuously operated production line at the architecturally outstanding company headquarters in Eisenach requires precise energy management, especially at times of high grid load.
The reduction of peak loads during the high load windows of atypical grid usage is therefore also the desired use case. In the grid region of EVB Netze GmbH, these time windows occur annually between December 1 and February 28 and are decisive for the amount of the grid fees. The installed battery storage system reduces the maximum peak load from the original 790 kW to 340 kW.
This savesaround 80,000 euros in grid fees and sustainably improves the site’s profitability.
Ralf Weber, Managing Director of Mantos Int. Food, is delighted: “Our aim was to specifically reduce peak loads in production and at the same time increase the self-consumption of our photovoltaic system. It was particularly important to us to find a solution that works today and can be expanded tomorrow. Thanks to the intelligent combination of battery storage, photovoltaics and energy management, the site is optimally prepared for future requirements such as time-variable electricity tariffs.”
In addition to the targeted reduction of peak loads, the battery storage system primarily increases the self-consumption of the photovoltaic system with 802 kWp to almost 100 percent, especially in the sunny summer months. For the food manufacturer, this means significantly lower electricity costs in the long term. The company is already saving around 25 percent of its energy costs, which adds up to 250.000 Euros per year. In the future, savings of over 35 percent are planned.
The project was realized together with MAXX SOLAR. With over 17 years of experience and more than 6,300 implemented projects in Thuringia, the solar EPC supported the project from planning to commissioning. As a sales partner of STABL Energy, MAXX SOLAR ensured the seamless integration of the battery storage system into the existing energy system. The storage system can also be reliably monitored during operation: Remote monitoring and maintenance ensure stable and economical operation.
The system is controlled by the energy management system (EMS) from Wendeware AG, which reliably maps and coordinates the various use cases from peak load reduction to self-consumption optimization. The EMS integrates all components seamlessly and implements the complex multi-use operation of the storage system without errors. In the long term, multi-use almost always beats single-use. Because those who, like Mantos International Food, consume PV electricity when it is available in abundance are rewarded like never before: a storage system is not a “one-trick pony”. To achieve maximum return on investment (ROI), a multi-use battery storage system is always the right choice.
“With this project, our customer Mantos is strengthening the energy efficiency of its production site and creating the basis for a long-term, economical and flexible energy supply. The partnership with MAXX SOLAR shows how quickly future-proof energy concepts for energy-intensive manufacturing companies can become reality,” says Bastian Hutter, Project Manager at STABL Energy.
A project that shows: Mantos International Food thinks about energy holistically and is winning today in terms of costs and tomorrow in terms of competitiveness.
