Munich/Schöder, July 20, 2026 – STABL Energy continues its growth trajectory and expands into Austria: Seven battery storage systems with a total storage capacity of 13.7 MWh for energy provider Elektrowerk Schöder GmbH
With its first battery storage project sold in the neighboring country, the Munich-based cleantech company is entering the Austrian market and setting a milestone in its European growth strategy. STABL is implementing a total of seven battery storage systems with a combined energy capacity of 13.7 MWh for Elektrowerk Schöder, introducing its resource-efficient storage technology to the Austrian energy infrastructure for the first time.
Four battery storage systems will be installed at the company’s central switching station by the end of August. Three additional systems will follow at the energy provider’s respective power plant sites. This will create a decentralized storage system that complements the existing hydropower infrastructure and flexibly supports the regional energy supply.
For the long-established Elektrowerk Schöder, which looks back on more than a century of history, this investment also represents a commitment to Murau as a center for business and energy. This is not just about smart technology, but also about grid stability, long-term security of supply, and the region’s future viability. In the future, the storage facilities will ensure that renewable energy is used more efficiently and that the power grid is further stabilized.
For STABL, the project marks several firsts: With Austria, the company is entering its first new international market since Germany. At the same time, it is the first project of this scale. This exemplifies the contribution battery storage can make at the intersection of energy generation, grid operation, and industrial electricity consumption.
“With the project at Elektrowerk Schöder, we’re demonstrating that our battery storage systems create tangible added value for energy utilities and industry even beyond Germany. Austria is therefore a logical next step for us. The market offers great potential for flexible storage solutions that efficiently integrate renewable energy while strengthening supply security,” says René Bisplinghoff, Head of Sales at STABL. “This project marks the start of our expansion in German-speaking countries before we set our sights on other European markets.”
At Elektrowerk Schöder, the storage systems are deployed where they are most effective: they smooth out peak loads in the power grid, store excess photovoltaic electricity, and make it available again as needed—for example, in the evening hours. This increases the self-consumption rate. The project is another step toward a modern “smart grid” that intelligently links generation, storage, and consumption. By operating in a grid-friendly manner, the strain on the power grid is noticeably reduced. In this way, the battery storage systems contribute to a reliable and sustainable energy system.
“With these battery storage systems, we are making a targeted investment in the future of our regional energy supply. They help us use renewable energy more flexibly, balance out peak loads, and make our grid even more resilient. At the same time, we are sending a clear signal for innovation and value creation in our region,” says Stefan Stadlober, Managing Director of Elektrowerk Schöder.
STABL Energy’s stationary battery storage solutions for commercial and industrial applicationsprimarily use second-chanceandzero-life batteries and significantly extend battery life thanks to modular multilevel inverter technology. These resource-efficient storage systems are designed to be integrated economically, safely, and reliably into existing energy infrastructure.
For over 100 years, Elektrowerk Schöder has been synonymous with a safe, sustainable, and regional energy supply in the Murau district. As a fourth-generation family-run business, it combines tradition and technical innovation to reliably supply customers with clean energy. Through extensive investments in infrastructure and the expansion of the power grid, the company continuously improves the reliability of supply and voltage quality.
STABL Energy is a provider of resource-efficient and reliable battery storage systems with the goal of increasing the use of renewable energy and contributing to grid stabilisation. Its easily integrable inverter technology sets a new standard for battery storage in terms of design, safety, reliability, cost-efficiency, and ease of use. Thanks to their special design, the individual battery modules are independent of one another yet dynamically interconnected. This guarantees nearly 100% availability, allowing modules in different states to be installed within a single battery storage system.
