Munich/Eisenach, 23 March 2026 – Mantos International Food implements battery storage and PV solution for peak load reduction with MAXX SOLAR & ENERGIE. The family-run poultry processor from Thuringia, Mantos International Food, is consistently focusing on a sustainable energy supply at its headquarters in Eisenach.
In close cooperation with regional installation partner MAXX SOLAR & ENERGIE, a high-performance photovoltaic system with an 802 kWp capacity and a STABL Energy battery storage system was installed. Together, these systems help to reduce peak loads and optimise self-consumption. The storage system is already reducing annual electricity costs by around 25 percent, and savings of over 35 percent are planned for the future.
Mantos International Food develops, produces and markets over 95% of its poultry convenience products under private labels for the retail, wholesale and food service sectors. The company’s architecturally outstanding headquarters in Eisenach house an energy-intensive, continuously operated production line that requires precise energy management, especially during periods of high grid load.
The project focused on reducing peak loads during periods of atypical grid usage. In the EVB Netze GmbH grid region, these time windows occur annually from 1 September to 30 November and from 1 December to 28 February, and are decisive for the level of grid charges. The installed battery storage system reduced the maximum peak load from 790 kW to 340 kW. The cooling chains of the products demand maximum performance, particularly in the summer months. This saves around 80,000 euros in grid charges and improves the site’s profitability in a sustainable way.
Ralf Weber, Managing Director of Mantos International Food, said: “We wanted to significantly reduce peak loads in production and, at the same time, increase the self-consumption of our photovoltaic system. It was important to us to find a solution that works today and can be expanded tomorrow. Thanks to the intelligent combination of battery storage, photovoltaics and energy management, our site is optimally prepared for future requirements, such as time-variable electricity tariffs.”
In addition to peak shaving, the battery storage system, which has a usable storage capacity of 1,233 kWh, increases the self-consumption of solar power to almost 100%. The storage system is already reducing Mantos International Food’s electricity costs, enabling annual savings of over €250,000.
“Our aim was to offer Mantos a solution that pays off both ecologically and economically. We demonstrate that companies in Thuringia can take control of their energy supply with intelligent storage technology,” says Tim Suchomel, MAXX SOLAR’s Managing Director.
The system is controlled by Wendeware‘s energy management system (EMS), which reliably maps and coordinates various use cases, ranging from peak load reduction to optimising self-consumption. The EMS seamlessly integrates all components and implements the storage system’s complex multi-use operation without error.
“With this project, Mantos International Food is strengthening the energy efficiency of its production site and laying the groundwork for a long-term, economical and flexible energy supply. A partnership-based approach demonstrates how regional partnerships can facilitate the development of efficient, future-proof energy concepts for energy-intensive production facilities,” says Bastian Hutter, Project Manager at STABL Energy, who is delighted with the outcome.
